Typhoid Cases In Telangana Increasing; Know The Symptoms, Risk Factors And More
Increase In Typhoid Cases In Telangana
Telangana has been witnessing an increase in typhoid cases. Doctors report that there are at least 5 to 6 cases in the hospital daily. Speaking to ANI, the Superintendent of Government Fever Hospital, Dr Shankar said, “There is a slight increase in outpatients (OP) at Fever Hospital due to seasonal diseases, with 800 OP cases daily. All the patients are coming in with complaints of a cold, cough, body pains, vomiting, loose motion, and various other symptoms.
“Dengue and typhoid cases are also increasing day by day, with 5 to 6 cases being reported at the fever hospital daily,” according to a report in TOI.
Typhoid is caused by the salmonella bacteria and it is a rare condition. Typhoid is a serious health condition which can affect children severely in places where it is common. Contaminated food and water are the major causes of typhoid fever. When you come in close contact with a person who is carrying the salmonella bacteria, you too can get infected.
Most people who have typhoid fever feel better about a week after they start treatment to kill bacteria, called antibiotics, says Mayo Clinic. Vaccines against typhoid fever can provide some protection. But they can’t protect against all cases of illness caused by other strains of salmonella. Vaccines can help lower the risk of getting typhoid fever.
Symptoms Of Typhoid
You might start to see the symptoms even 1 to 3 weeks after exposure to the bacteria.
Here, take a look at the symptoms of the early illness.

Risk Factors of Typhoid
You have an increased risk if the place you live in reports high number of cases or regular outbreaks. If you live in a place where typhoid fever is rare, you have an increased risk if you:
Work in or travel to areas where typhoid fever is present, especially if you travel to visit family or friends.
Work as a clinical microbiologist
Have close contact with someone who is infected or has recently been infected with typhoid fever.
Complications of Typhoid
One of the major complications of typhoid is the damage it causes to the intestines. Typhoid fever complications can include damage and bleeding in the intestines. Typhoid fever also can cause cells in the walls of the small intestine or large bowel to die off. This allows the contents of the gut to leak into the body. That can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting and infection throughout the body, which is called sepsis.
Other possible complications are:
Inflammation of the heart muscle, called myocarditis
Inflammation of the lining of the heart and valves, called endocarditis
Infection of major blood vessels, called mycotic aneurysm
Pneumonia
Inflammation of the pancreas, called pancreatitis
Kidney or bladder infections
Infection and inflammation of the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, called meningitis
Psychiatric problems, such as delirium, hallucinations and paranoid psychosis.
