Three Foods That Can Clean Your Dirty Kidneys, As Suggested By An Expert
A kidney cleanse program focuses on detoxifying the kidneys by consuming kidney-friendly foods and drinks
Your kidneys are among the most important organs that remove waste and extra fluid from your body. They also maintain a healthy balance of water, salts, and minerals like sodium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium in your blood. Since they act as a natural filtration system for the body, they need to be cleansed when they are overworked or need detox regularly.
"There are certain foods that are really important,” Dr. Eric Berg said on his Instagram.
According to Dr. Berg, a kidney cleanse helps remove toxins from your body, promotes better kidney health, and reduces the risk of diseases.
A few foods you must consume to help clean your dirty kidneys include:
Low-oxalate vegetables
Low-oxalate vegetables are the ones that are packed with oxalic acid and calcium and are found in fruits and vegetables like cabbage, asparagus, celery, dates, and spinach.
According to Dr. Berg, these vegetables and fruits increase the risk of stones, which are painful hard deposits made of minerals. And so, limit their consumption.
Foods high in magnesium
According to Dr. Berg, foods that are loaded with magnesium prevent or slow the development of vascular calcification, which is associated with chronic kidney disease or CKD. Magnesium can do this by preventing calcium phosphate from crystallising.
Foods high in magnesium like pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, and avocados help counteract the toxic effects of phosphate on the kidneys. Phosphate overload damages your kidneys and magnesium prevents this damage.
High-quality protein from fish
Fish is an amazing source of protein and great for those with kidney disease. However, experts recommend those with kidney disease should restrict their protein intake to 0.55-0.60 g/kg body weight daily. “Make sure you have a moderate amount of protein—not too high—and keep your carbs low because high blood sugar destroys the kidneys,” said Dr. Berg.
Fish is also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which help lower blood pressure and triglyceride levels, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and raise good cholesterol.
Other ways to cleanse your kidneys
Other ways to cleanse and detox your kidneys regularly include:
Drink more water
Consuming plenty of water is significant for the kidneys to remove wastes present in the blood. Water makes the blood vessels open to ease the blood flow to the kidneys to provide vital nutrients.
Reduce sodium intake
Salt consumption raises urinary protein levels, which is a major risk factor for developing kidney and heart diseases.
Make adequate dietary changes
Dietary changes maintain the health of the kidneys and body in general. And so, restrict processed foods and incorporate kidney-friendly foods.
Drink dandelions tea
Dandelion leaves contain flavonoids, which are antioxidants that cleanse the kidneys, purify the blood, and increase urine flow. Drinking dandelion tea regularly will help in kidney detox and prevent kidney disease.
