Dr Michael Roizen, an anesthesiologist and the chief wellness officer at Cleveland Clinic, is 78 years old. He claims that he has reversed his biological age by 20 years. While speaking to media, he shared his diet principles as he urged people to follow them in order to stay fit and healthy. Dr Michael claimed that his "biological age" is around 57.6. This means that based on his risk of dying or developing age-related chronic illness, his body appears to be way younger than his physical age.
With this, he shared some lifestyle changes and hacks that one should follow. He used some of his principles to develop a wellness institute at the Cleveland Clinic. This program has saved Cleveland Clinic up to $200 million a year on the healthcare costs of 101,000 employee patients since 2008, according to Roizen.
Some of these principles are
Eat a Mediterranean diet
A Mediterranean diet primarily consists of whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, legumes, low-fat protein and dairy, and limits red meat, processed foods, and alcohol. It is accompanied with several benefits, some of which are:
Lowering your risk of heart attack or stroke
Supporting your body weight
Supporting healthy blood sugar levels
Lowering your risk of metabolic syndrome
Supporting a healthy balance of gut microbiota
Lowering your risk for certain types of cancer
Slowing cognitive decline
Restrict calories
Dr Michael also follows The Longevity Diet, which was developed by Valter Longo. He has been doing this for seven years now. For those who don't know, the diet requires restricting calories five days a month. Calories are dropped to 1,100 on the first day of the "fast," then to about 700 on days two to five.
Eat during an 8-hour window
Dr Michael intermittent fasts by eating between 11am and 7pm each day. He said that he likes how he feels. "By the end of that 16-hour period, I'm feeling great and very energetic. I sleep much better and I seem to have much more energy as well," he said while speaking to media.
Apart from this, there are many other ways which help you to stay fit. You can make these changes in your day-to-day lives to reap the benefits.
Stand Up More
Sitting for extended periods can lead to a variety of health problems, including weight gain and poor posture. To combat this, try to stand up and move around more throughout the day. Consider investing in a standing desk or taking regular breaks to stretch and walk around.
Take Walking Breaks
If you have a desk job, taking a short walk during your lunch break is an excellent way to get some exercise in during the day. Walking is a low-impact exercise that can help improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles, and boost mood and energy levels.
Incorporate Movement Into Daily Tasks
Try to incorporate movement into daily tasks whenever possible. This could mean doing some stretches while watching TV, doing squats while brushing your teeth, or taking the long way to the bathroom. These small changes may seem insignificant, but they can add up over time and help improve overall fitness levels.
