In the last seven months, Telangana has recorded over 1,800 dengue cases this year. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) itself recorded around 60 per cent of these dengue cases while the remaining 40 per cent were recorded across various districts. As per reports Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubnagar, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and Khammam have reported most of the dengue cases. The State Health Department has issued an advisory to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases. The advisory recommends precautionary measures that include securing doors and windows with mosquito nets and covering septic tanks with a mesh to prevent mosquito breeding.
Further, the Health Department has urged the public to participate in 'Friday Dry Day' every week to eliminate stagnant water around their homes. "As a precaution, the government has made extensive arrangements, including providing special beds, intravenous (IV) fluids, and essential medicines at all public health facilities. Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets are also available through ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers to address any emergencies," stated Dr B. Ravinder Nayak, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare.
Signs And Symptoms Of Dengue To Watch Out For
High Fever: One of the symptoms of dengue fever is a sudden onset of high fever, typically lasting for 2 to 7 days. The fever is often accompanied by intense sweating and chills.
Severe Headache: If you are down with dengue fever, then there is a high chance that you may experience severe headaches, which can become debilitating. These headaches may be frontal or retro-orbital (behind the eyes) and are often described as throbbing or pounding.
Pain Behind the Eyes: Many individuals with dengue fever experience pain behind the eyes, known as retro-orbital pain. This symptom is often exacerbated by eye movements.
Muscle and Joint Pain: Dengue fever commonly causes severe muscle and joint pain, often referred to as "breakbone fever" due to the intense discomfort it causes. The pain may persist for several days.
10 Ways To Stay Safe From Dengue Fever
Eliminate standing water: Mosquitoes that carry dengue breed in standing water. Regularly empty, cover, or treat containers that collect water.
Use mosquito repellent: Apply an effective mosquito repellent on exposed skin and clothing.
Wear protective clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and shoes to minimize exposed skin.
Use bed nets: Sleep under a mosquito net, especially if you're in an area with high dengue transmission.
Maintain a clean environment: Keep your surroundings clean and free from clutter to reduce mosquito breeding sites.
Stay Indoors: Mosquitoes that transmit dengue are most active during early morning and late afternoon. Stay indoors during these times if possible.
Keep doors and windows screened: Use screens on doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering your living spaces.
Support community efforts: Participate in local initiatives to control mosquito populations and raise awareness about dengue prevention.
Seek medical attention: If you experience symptoms like high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, and rash, seek medical care promptly.
Stay informed: Stay updated on dengue outbreaks and follow public health guidelines provided by local authorities.
