Real Life Weight Loss Story: When you love food, it can be challenging to control the urge to eat, leading to weight gain that becomes difficult to manage. Clothes don't fit, you get tired easily, and even simple tasks like tying your shoelaces become a struggle. This unhealthy weight gain can lead to numerous health problems, and low self-esteem, and can also affect your mental health. This was the reality for Ashwariya Sinha, a 23-year-old medical student, who struggled with losing extra weight. However, she proved that "where there's a will, there's a way." Ashwariya, who once weighed 109 kg, now weighs 74 kg. Here's how she did it!
"It was February 2021 when I had to start going to college. While shopping, I realised that even 3XL clothes didn't fit me. I started breathing heavily after walking for just 20 minutes. I felt like I didn't fit in. I wanted to be the best version of myself and was tired of being overweight. So, I decided to do whatever it took to lose weight, and that's how my transformation journey began," she shared.
It took Ashwariya 8-9 months to shed the excess weight. As a foodie, it was tough for her to resist sweets and junk food, which controlled her mind. "I love sweets and food used to dictate my mood. It was mentally challenging to manage the sugar cravings. There were times when I questioned if the weight loss was even happening and wondered how much longer it would take to lose all this fat," she said.
Ashwariya's primary goal was to fit into a size L, to stop hearing comments from people, and to feel worthy and confident. The stamina needed to survive med school and college peer pressure was her biggest motivator.
Weight Loss Diet And Workout Regime Followed During Transformation
Breakfast: Ashwariya's breakfast typically included oats and milk with chai (without sugar). She completely cut sugar from her diet and avoided biscuits and processed foods.
Lunch: She had homemade food, including a bowl of rice, vegetable curry without potatoes, dal, fish, dahi (yogurt), and cucumber.
Snacks: Her snacks included black coffee with nuts, which also served as her pre-workout meal.
Dinner: For dinner, she avoided carbs, opting for a plate of grilled paneer, chicken, or egg whites, along with tomato and garlic soup.
Workout: Ashwariya worked out in the evening, focusing mainly on cardio. She ran on the treadmill for 45 minutes, burning around 250 calories. She followed YouTube videos, particularly by EMI WONG, for exercises targeting specific body areas. She also incorporated skipping and dancing into her routine. She worked out 3-4 times a week.
Ashwariya also practised intermittent fasting, having dinner by 7 PM and breakfast at 10 AM the next day. For snacks, she had low-sugar fruits, nuts, berries, and egg whites.
Did You Encounter Any Setbacks During Weight Loss Journey, And If So, How Did You Overcome Them?
"There were no major setbacks. I set a six-month target for my body, but it took 8-9 months, which is okay. Once you start seeing results, your motivation increases," she explained.
What Advice Do You Have For Others Who Are Looking To Embark On A Similar Transformation Journey?
"If I can do it, anybody can. Just start! That's the hardest part. Don't set a date; just begin. Avoid eating for fun, taste, mood elevation, or just for the sake of it. Eat only when necessary and control your portions," she said.
How Has Your Life Changed Since Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals?
“It has helped me gain confidence, and wear outfits that I always wanted to, people have started appreciating me, as a medico I can run and stay enthusiastic with my postings and work. In short, it has made me a much more disciplined and happy person from within,” she said.
