Also known as the Lion Pose, this asana is known to help reduce tension in the face and neck, thereby, reducing stress and promoting relaxation. It also helps to stimulate the throat and thyroid glands, improving vocal clarity and regulating metabolism. The name, Simhasana, is derived from the Sanskrit words, ‘Simha’ which means ‘Lion’ and ‘Asana’ which means ‘Posture’. When you complete this pose, your body resembles the image of a Lion and hence it is known as The Lion Pose. This asana is known to have several health benefits.
But first, take a look at how to perform the pose correctly.
Sit on the floor on your knees in the Vajrasana Pose.
Then, spread out your knees, bend forward and place your hands between the knees on the ground. Your fingers should face towards your body.
Open your eyes and focus at the centre of your eyebrow.
Keep your body relaxed as inhale deeply and keep your mouth closed.
Exhale with your mouth, take out the tongue and make a strong and clear ‘haa’ sound, like a lion.
Then, close your mouth and inhale again with the nose.
