1. Weather Changes: The sudden changes in the weather during the monsoon are one of the main causes of migraines. Headaches may result from the abrupt change in temperature from hot and dry to chilly and damp.
2. Humidity: Excessive humidity can interfere with the body's capacity to control its temperature, which may result in dehydration. Due to its ability to briefly cause the brain to contract and pull away from the skull, dehydration is known to produce migraines.
3. Mould and Allergens: The monsoon season's increased moisture content can promote the growth of mould and the spread of allergens. For those who are sensitive to these drugs, being exposed to them may cause migraines.
4. Stress and Lifestyle Modifications: Daily routines are frequently disturbed by the monsoon season. Stress is a well-known migraine trigger, and it can be exacerbated by altered sleep patterns, traffic jams, and delayed or interrupted travel.
5. Barometric Pressure: Variations in barometric pressure, which are frequent during the monsoon, can have an impact on blood flow to the brain. Migraine sufferers may experience an increase in cerebral blood vessel dilatation due to a decrease in barometric pressure.
Tips For Preventing Migraines During Monsoon
Dr Aditya Gupta shares tips to prevent migraine during monsoon:
1. Stay Hydrated: Throughout the monsoon, it's important to consume lots of water. To avoid dehydration, try to drink eight glasses of water or more each day. Consuming foods high in water content, such as fruits and vegetables, can also be beneficial.
2. Keep a Regular Schedule: Make an effort to stick to a regular routine as much as you can. Frequent eating, sleeping, and exercise schedules can reduce the chance of migraines.
3. Handle Stress: Make time each day for things that help you relax. Stress management techniques include yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises.
4. Keep an eye on Weather Changes: Be aware of any unexpected changes in the weather and stay up to date on forecasts. If you are aware that a storm is coming, take precautions like remaining inside and avoiding physically demanding activities.
5. Control Indoor Humidity: To keep the humidity level in your house pleasant, use a dehumidifier. This can reduce the number of allergens and stop mould from growing.
6. Avoid Known Triggers: Determine which meals and beverages set off your migraines and steer clear of them. Caffeine, alcohol, aged cheeses, and processed foods are common offenders. One useful tool for tracking and avoiding these triggers is a migraine diary.
7. Take Medication as Directed: If your doctor has recommended medication to treat migraines, follow their instructions. Administering over-the-counter analgesics as soon as symptoms appear can also be beneficial.
8. Speak with a Doctor: See a medical expert if your migraines are severe or frequent. They can offer advice on suitable treatments and assist in identifying the underlying problems.
