Losing weight is never easy especially if you are dealing with health problems like PCOD or PCOS. Shedding those extra pounds requires a lot of effort, consistency and motivation. Excessive weight often leads to bullying, and demeaning comments, which shatters a person’s will to do anything. However, Ishita Jain took this as a challenge. After facing relentless bullying and a lack of motivation, in mid-2020, Ishita decided to take charge of her health. Starting with little knowledge she was eventually able to reach her aim by focusing on clean eating, regular home workouts, and understanding the science behind her hormonal imbalances.
Within 6-7 months, she shed 23 kgs, reversed her PCOD without medications, and regained her confidence. Here’s how she did it.
“My transformative journey has been a life-changing experience. It has completely reshaped my personality, and how I perceive myself, and the confidence I've gained is remarkable. In 2019-2020, I was diagnosed with PCOD/PCOS. My gynaecologist advised me to lose weight, but I struggled to begin and lacked the motivation to change my lifestyle. I even stopped taking the prescribed medications to reverse my PCOD, which led to significant weight gain, increased body fat, and eventually obesity. I craved sugary, processed, and junk foods, and was often bullied with harsh comments like "Bhains" (buffalo), "Saand" (bull), and "Haathi" (elephant). I couldn't fit into clothes of my choice, and the loose, saggy skin made me cry often,” she said.
However, in October 2020, she realised it was time to turn the tables. She challenged herself, and finally got into the clothes I wanted. “I made mistakes in the beginning, experimenting with diets like keto, low carbs, and low fats, but eventually, I focused on eating clean, working out at home, and trying to understand hormonal imbalances, obesity, and their relationship with food,” she said.
What Inspired You To Embark On This Journey?
“I always wanted to wear the confidence and the clothes of my choice while leading a healthy lifestyle. Honestly, I wanted to prove wrong those who bullied me and said all I could do was eat. When I saw that I had lost 2 kgs, it inspired me to keep going, losing another 2 kgs, and then even more, until I reached my ideal body weight,” Ishita said.
What Were Some Of The Biggest Challenges You Faced Along The Way?
“I started my journey with crash diets, which only made me crave more, feel constipated, and tired throughout the day. Due to hormonal imbalance and poor metabolism, losing weight was extremely difficult,” she explained.
How Did You Stay Motivated Throughout Your Weight Loss Journey?
Once she began following a healthy diet, regular workouts, and balanced meals, Ishita didn't feel like quitting. That was her biggest motivation.
Diet And Exercise Regimen Followed During Your Transformation Journey?
Ishita follows a simple home-based 1200 kcal, high-protein balanced diet, with intermittent fasting. Her workout routine includes six days a week of exercise, with weightlifting 3-4 times a week and the rest being cardio, all done at home.
“Being a vegetarian, I prioritised protein in every meal, drank 3-4 litres of water daily, and exercised at home six times a week. I also practised intermittent fasting (16:8 window), which worked like magic for balancing my hormones, boosting my metabolism, and achieving weight loss. My diet now includes 6-7 servings of fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. As a result, I've lost 23 kgs, reversed my PCOD without any medications or fancy diets, and can finally wear the clothes I love,” she said.
What Advice Do You Have For Others Looking To Embark On A Similar Transformation Journey?
“If I can do it, so can you. Follow the right guidance, eat clean, challenge your inner self, and remember: that consistency is the key. Start with regular workouts, cut down on junk, fried, packaged, and processed foods, include more fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water,” she said.
How Has Your Life Changed Since Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals?
“The confidence I've gained is invaluable. Others' perceptions of me have changed as well. I feel more comfortable and confident in my body, with greater self-esteem and a positive self-image. My physical fitness and stamina have improved, my digestion and metabolism have enhanced, and I have reversed my PCOD,” she said.
“I've experienced reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, improved mood and mental clarity, and better-coping mechanisms for stress. I'm more active and engaged in physical activities, have healthier eating habits, and have a better understanding of nutrition. I've also noticed increased energy levels and better sleep quality. The positive feedback and motivation from friends and family, along with potential new opportunities in both personal and professional life, have been unimaginable,” she said.
