A lot of people tend to fall asleep while performing this pose, however, it is important that you’re conscious and alert mentally while your body relaxes physically. The name, Shavasana, is derived from the Sanskrit words, ‘Sava’ which means ‘Corpse’ and ‘Asana’ which means ‘Posture’. When you complete this pose, your body resembles a corpse and hence it is known as The Corpse Pose. This asana is known to have several health benefits.
But first, take a look at how to perform the pose correctly.
Lay down on your yoga mat with your back on the floor and your face towards the ceiling.
Close your eyes and keep a distance between your feet and make sure your face is parallel to the ceiling.
Keep your arms close to your body and palms open.
Continue breathing and focus on your breaths. Also, don’t fall asleep.
You can be in this pose for 10-12 minutes and then roll to one side and sit up.
