While women in general are often targeted about their bodies and it has been a point of intimidation for many, Actress Bhumi Pednekar has always made it a point to unabashedly embrace her body, even when the trollers attacked her for gaining 27kgs for her debut movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The actress flawlessly portrayed the character of an overweight newly-wed wife. However, following the successful completion of her film's shooting, the actress began her fitness journey, which left many jaw-dropped.
Now, many have known about the actress dropping kilos and embracing a new lifestyle, however, what many people don't know is that she did not approach any dietician or follow any fad diets to achieve her fitness goal. Instead, she relied on her mother's vast knowledge and our very own "ghar ke nuske."
In case you are also looking to lose some weight, here are a few tips that you can steal from Bhumi's journey.
Diet tips
The actress, on multiple occasions, has said that she is a big time foodie. She has never denied herself of her favourite foods. However, as a part of her fitness journey, Bhumi did cut on fast food and replaced it with "ghar ka khaana." She kept her portion sizes in check and developed a diet plan including food items such as eggs, missi roti, upma, poha, grilled chicken, rice, multi-grain rotis. She also made sure that she consumed 6-7 litres of water daily and also experimented with detox water, which included mint and fresh cucumbers.
Start with a morning workout
In a conversation with Vogue earlier, Bhumi mentioned that she likes starting off her day with an endorphin boost, as she likes to run first thing in the morning. “Running regularly and light exercises along with a balanced diet will help keep you active. Hence, I start my day with running followed by a healthy breakfast including foods like nuts, fruits that help maintain my energy levels and give me the boost of nutrition I need to go about my day," she said. After a good workout session, endorphins and adrenaline flow through the body, which results in a runner's high that can last for hours after you finish. It also boosts your metabolism, improves cardiovascular health and joint health.
Loving yourself
No matter how much you weigh, it is always important to love yourself. The actress has always emphasized on the importance of self love. “I was never body-shamed for [my debut] Dum Laga Ke Haisha. On the contrary, the audience appreciated my character in the film. I will always cherish the love and respect that I received from the audience. I felt overwhelmed and motivated,” the actress said once while speaking to media.
Quitting sugar
Have a sweet tooth? It may be good to satiate your cravings but not so great for your health and weight. The actress, on multiple occasions, has admitted that quitting or reducing the intake of refined sugar was one of her best decisions. "Refined sugar – brown or white – is nothing but taste and empty calories. In fact in the process to digest it, it empties your body of a lot of vitamins and minerals. For someone like me who has a sweet tooth, staying away from meetha was tough. So I thought, why crave and deprive yourself, when you have healthier options available today," Bhumi said.
Bhumi's breakfast ritual
The actress frequently posts on her Instagram about her fitness regime. Earlier, Bhumi posted about her breakfast ritual. She said, “I start my mornings with a glass of warm or detox water and thirty minutes later, I eat muesli with skimmed milk and flax or sunflower seeds. Then comes the king-sized breakfast (an hour before gyming) of whole-wheat bread with 2 egg white omelets and a fruit (papaya or apple).” She added, “There is nothing healthier than kick-starting your day with a breakfast like this. Stomach this recommendation for now, next week I will share with you my lunch menu for losing it like me :)”
